Trump vs. China's Wind Power: The World's Largest Wind Farm Revealed! (2026)

Unveiling the Truth: China's Wind Power Revolution

In a recent controversial statement, Donald Trump has once again sparked debate by targeting China's wind energy sector. He boldly claimed that China, despite being the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer, doesn't utilize wind power itself. But here's where it gets intriguing...

During his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump made several bold assertions, including his criticism of wind and solar energy as a "scam of the century." He also highlighted the US's stance as the world's leading fossil fuel producer while simultaneously suspending leases on US offshore wind projects, citing national security concerns.

"China makes almost all the world's wind turbines, yet I haven't seen any wind farms there," Trump stated, adding, "They sell them to the stupid people that buy them, but don't use them themselves."

But is this claim accurate? Let's delve deeper.

China's Response and the Reality of Green Energy

Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, swiftly refuted Trump's claims. China's commitment to tackling climate change and promoting renewable energy is evident, Jiakun emphasized.

According to Ember, an energy think tank, China's wind generation in 2024 accounted for 40% of the global wind generation, despite an increase in fossil fuel generation. In 2025, China achieved a significant milestone, with wind and solar power generating over a quarter (26%) of the country's electricity in April, surpassing the previous record of 23.7% set in March.

At the same time, fossil fuel generation declined by 3.6% year-on-year during the first four months of 2025. Analysis by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) revealed that China is experiencing a relative decoupling stage, where emissions rise more slowly than GDP.

China's leadership in renewable development is undeniable. With 180 GW of solar and 159 GW of wind power projects already under construction, the country is leading the global race. This capacity is almost twice that of the rest of the world combined and is sufficient to power all of South Korea, according to Global Energy Monitor.

The World's Largest Wind Farm: A Visible Achievement

Despite Trump's claim, China is home to the world's largest wind farm, located in the vast desert region of western Gansu. Construction began in 2009, and the first phase was completed within a year. The Gansu Wind Farm already boasts over 7,000 turbines and is scheduled to have an installed capacity of 20 GW, enough to power around 15 million homes.

So, the question remains: Why does Trump continue to make such controversial statements? Is it a matter of misunderstanding or a deliberate attempt to mislead?

What are your thoughts on this matter? Do you think Trump's claims hold any truth, or is this yet another example of his controversial rhetoric? Feel free to share your insights and opinions in the comments below!
