Daphne Rubin-Vega, Sarita Choudhury, and more talented actors will take the stage in the upcoming production of THE ADDING MACHINE at The New Group. This theater company has officially announced its complete cast for Elmer L. Rice's acclaimed play, which has been updated by Thomas Bradshaw. Under the direction of Scott Elliott, this compelling production will feature notable performances from Sarita Choudhury, Michael Cyril Creighton, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Jennifer Tilly. Performances are set to kick off on March 24, leading up to an exciting Opening Night on Tuesday, April 14. Audiences can enjoy this limited Off-Broadway engagement until May 10. Notably, this production marks the beginning of The New Group's 2026 Season in their new venue at The Theater at St. Clement's.
At the heart of the story is Mr. Zero, a man who feels like just another insignificant part of a machine. Struggling to meet his own needs, he finds it even harder to support his wife, Mrs. Zero, or his work partner, Daisy. However, when his boss decides to replace him with a machine, Mr. Zero's frustration boils over into violence, sending him on a chaotic journey where he must take control of his own destiny. Remarkably, although this satirical piece was first written over a century ago, its themes remain alarmingly relevant in today's society.
This production brings together a stellar cast, including Sarita Choudhury, Michael Cyril Creighton, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Jennifer Tilly. The visual elements of the show are enhanced by scenic design from Derek McLane, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Stan Mathabane. Valerie A. Peterson serves as the Production Stage Manager, while Five Ohm is the Production Supervisor. Originally produced in 1923, THE ADDING MACHINE continues to resonate with audiences, making it a must-see for theater enthusiasts.
