Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Super Greens Diet Supplement Powder Affects 45 People Across 21 States
A recent health alert has revealed a concerning outbreak of salmonella poisoning, affecting at least 45 individuals across 21 states. The culprit? The Super Greens brand of diet supplement powder, produced by Superfoods Inc. The affected products, including the original and wild berry flavors, were distributed nationwide and had expiration dates ranging from August 2026 to January 2028.
The illness was reported between August 22 and December 30, 2025, with at least 12 people requiring hospitalization. Despite the serious nature of the outbreak, no fatalities have been reported, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The FDA's investigation is ongoing, and they have issued a strong warning that additional products may be contaminated. This is a critical development, as it highlights the potential for further exposure and the need for immediate action to prevent further illness.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning typically appear within hours or days of consuming contaminated food. These symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. While most people recover without treatment within a week, the illness can be particularly severe in vulnerable populations, such as children under 5, adults over 65, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
This outbreak serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety and the potential risks associated with dietary supplements. Consumers are advised to exercise caution and dispose of or return any affected products to the place of purchase to prevent further exposure.
