Traffic woes are taking center stage this morning on the West Midlands motorway network, and it’s causing quite a stir among drivers. As motorists navigate their way through the Black Country area, they are facing significant delays on both the M5 and M6 motorways due to lane closures.
Currently, one lane is shut on the southbound stretch of the M6, specifically between Junction 11 at Cannock and Junction 10 towards Walsall. According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the situation is compounded by an accident in the area, leading to heavy congestion. Inrix reported, "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Southbound from J11 A460 (Cannock) to J10 A454 Black Country Route (Wolverhampton/Walsall)."
In addition to the M6 disruptions, the M5 is also experiencing delays following a prior lane closure and an earlier incident. The southbound carriageway, particularly between the M6 interchange and Junction 1 for West Bromwich, is seeing slow-moving traffic. Inrix highlighted, "Slow traffic due to earlier accident on M5 Southbound from M6 J8 to J1 A4252 Kenrick Way (West Bromwich/Birmingham)."
In a related note, Oxford Street in Bilston has been closed in both directions due to a police incident, adding to the traffic chaos in the region.
As of 09:49, reports indicate that the M6 continues to be busy yet gradually moving along the affected route. Inrix updated, "M6 Southbound busy but moving due to earlier accident from J11 A460 (Cannock) to J10 A454 Black Country Route (Wolverhampton/Walsall)."
At 08:47, Inrix had already confirmed the lane closure on the southbound side of the M6 as a result of the accident, stating, "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Southbound from J11 A460 (Cannock) to J10 A454 Black Country Route (Wolverhampton/Walsall)."
As these incidents unfold, it’s crucial for drivers to stay informed and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid further complications.
